Explorer Filter

The Katadyn Explorer Filter does one thing: it delivers clean, great-tasting water wherever you need it. Take it deep into the backcountry, on a long expedition, or into the field. It runs a two-stage system – ceramic microfiltration and activated carbon. Reliable, straightforward, and built to last.

The ceramic filter handles turbid, heavily contaminated water with ease. Unlike hollow fibre membranes, you can clean and reuse it across multiple trips.

The activated carbon stage removes chlorine, odours and turbidity. So instead of just safe water, you get genuinely great-tasting water. Need virus protection down the line? The Explorer Pro Upgrade Kit adds a hollow fibre 0.01 μm virus membrane at any time — no need to buy a new filter.

A steel pump piston forms the core of the Explorer Filter. Because of this, it handles frequent, demanding use in harsh conditions. All filter stages store dry between trips. As a result, there is no mould risk and no preparation needed – just pack it and go. Katadyn manufactures the Explorer Filter in-house in Switzerland, with strict quality control at every stage.

Pro tip: In freezing conditions, store the Explorer Filter inside your pack or sleeping bag overnight. This protects the pump mechanism and seals from damage.
